A Differentiating Management System That Brings Great Benefits
The main phases of the project for the implementation and subsequent certification of your SGE are:
- Energy policy of the company.
- Energy review.
- Evaluation of the energy legislation applicable to the company.
- Energy and baseline performance indicators.
- Opportunities for improvement, objectives and action plans.
- Training and awareness.making.
- Design and acquisition of energy products and services.
- Verification and monitoring of the SGE.
- Certification in case the company deems it appropriate.
ISO 50001 is highly integrated with other international standards based on PDCA cycles such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001 or ISO 27001
The implementation of the SGCT in your organization has the following benefits:
- Improves your organization’s image.
- Improved incident response in information systems that may lead to process shutdown.
- Higher quality of its services.
- Satisfaction of its customers.
- Availability of your technological processes.
- Lower cost of incidents or disasters.
Like other international standards, ISO 50001 is based on the Continuous Improvement Plan (PDCA) or Deming Cycle:
PLAN: During this phase, the organization will carry out the study and analysis of its energy situation, assess the effectiveness of the measures taken previously and plan new actions for the continuous improvement of the energy performance of the organization.
IMPLEMENT (Do): In the next phase the organization launches the planned actions in the previous phase. During this stage, the necessary training of the personnel, the operational control of the processes and the acquisition of services, products, equipment and energy are also included.
REVIEW: the implementation of the SGE requires monitoring and review of the controls and measures implemented. It is therefore essential to carry out both internal and external audits that review the effectiveness of the SGE, as well as the verification of the parameters and indicators of control of the efficiency of the system.
ACT: The implementation of an SGE requires to act, maintain and constantly improve the energy performance of the company. Once the system has been reviewed, in the face of the detection of Non-conformities or deviations, the company acts to correct the system continuously improving the processes of the SGE.
Although the entire system provides value for improving efficiency, the energy overhaul is possibly the part of the standard that sets the most difference from other standards. In this crucial decision-making process, the organization establishes and analyzes the current state of its company in terms of consumption and efficiency, studying all its energy uses, assessing its meaning, reviewing the status of its facilities, equipment and/or energy processes, etc.
This energy characterization will result in the detection and planning of opportunities for improvement, which will eventually allow a lower consumption and greater control of your company’s energy assets.
What is energy efficiency and what does it bring to your company?
ISO 50001:2011 is the international standard that helps companies continuously improve their energy performance. With the implementation of an Energy Management System (SGE),your company will be in a position to proactively understand, control and improve processes and assets that consume more energy within your business, ensuring significant periodic savings and a reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
By certifying in ISO 50001:2011,you can prove to third parties your involvement with energy savings, climate change and sustainable energy, as well as your commitment to continuously improve your energy performance.
