The international standard for energy management systems. It asks you to understand how energy is used, set an energy baseline, measure performance with indicators and improve continually.
Can it be certified?
Yes. Certification is issued by an accredited certification body after an audit, with surveillance audits every year and recertification every three. GlobalSuite Solutions doesn't certify: it helps you get your system ready and supports you through the audit.
What is a significant energy use?
One that accounts for a substantial share of energy consumption or offers considerable potential for improvement. Those are the ones to measure, control and improve first.
Why do indicators need normalising?
Because consumption depends on production or weather. Normalising for those relevant variables shows whether you're really saving or just producing less.
Does it help with mandatory energy audits?
In many countries, a certified ISO 50001 system is one way for large companies to meet the mandatory energy audit requirement. Check the rules in each country.
