ISO 9001:2015 is an international standard that sets out a Quality Management System (QMS) of an organization by meeting the requirements it proposes. Its purpose is to ensure that the performance of organization’s activity is aimed at continuous improvement and provides products and services enhancing their client’s satisfaction.

¿Why is important the management become involved in the Quality Management System ISO 9001?

It is essential that the Management become involved in the QMS, in order to engage all organization and to ensure the quality process success. This will also have a directly impact in the Improvement of the flow of information and communication of the organization, allowing to facilitate the work between departments and, in this way, improve the performance of the different areas of the organization as a single team, avoiding duplication of work and unnecessary tasks.

“QMS focuses on organization’s processes.”

To do this, the organization’s processes must initially be identified, and a process mappingmust be drawn up in which they are all included, indicating their structure and the relationship with each other. There will be three main groups of processes: the operational processes – on which the company relies for business performance -, the strategic processes – that guide the entire Management System towards continuous improvement – and the support processes – that maintain the previous ones. All the organization’s processes must have a series of established measurement indicators in order to analyze the evolution of the results of each QMS activity.

This Quality standard analyses in a detailed way the organization’s context. In other words, it studies its external and internal situation considering different factors and aspects that directly in the company, including interested parties (employees, suppliers, and clients among others) that are affected or affect the organization’s QMS.

For this System maintenance, a periodic review of compliance with the requirements, objectives and indicators set by the organization must be carried out, verifying that the expected results are achieved. Given its importance, an indicator that measures customer satisfactionshould be set. These periodic reviews will allow the detection of trends that may lead to possible risks and opportunities for the organization, so they must be considered in a risk analysis and addressed to adapt to new circumstances. Its purpose is to facilitate the planning of pertinent actions in those aspects most critical to the organization.

Another QMS performance evaluation tool are internal audits, which will check the system’s compliance with the requirements defined by the organization and those required by the standard itself. In the case of detecting deviations, these must be corrected later by the organization through corrective actions.

For these reasons, the ISO 9001 standard requires a detailed analysis of the situation and evolution of the organization, promoting the prioritization of actions and the establishment of business objectives aimed at providing Quality products and services that meet customer requirements. All this involves the improvement of the corporate image, along with the increase in customer confidence.
